Stamford On TV
Stamford has probably been seen by millions on television and in films over the years, as its natural beauty and its charismatic charm have really seen very little change over hundreds of years. One of the latest Television dramas to film in Stamford was the award winning television series created by the BBC, Middle March.
This Georgian town has many elegant buildings, Sir Water Scott proclaimed that Stamford has some of the finest buildings and landscapes between London and Edinburgh.
Stamford is perhaps famous for its hills and winding roads and side streets made of cobbled stone and how it hosts more than 600 listed buildings in this historic and charming old market town.

The river Welland flows through the heart of the town, with open grass lands running alongside the river at various points through out the town. The town has no fewer than 5 medieval churches dating back as far as the 13th century.
The tall spire of All Saints church can be seen from many places in the town and is situated close to the( Brewery MuseumTEL 01780 752186). All Saints church is renowned for its beautiful stained glass and was extensively rebuilt by John and William Browne, two wealthy wool merchants in the 15th century, who also carried out the building of Brownes Hospital in Broad Street
The town has extensive bars, restaurants and shopping facilities but has still been able to retain its original charm and character. The town has several smaller side streets where several small charismatic shops can be found that give off that old worldly charm that is quite hard to pin-point.

ARTS CENTRE & OPEN AIR THEATRE
Stamford's Art's theatre situated in St. Mary's Street was originally built in 1766 and has recently been restored in line with the rest of Stamford's original buildings. The theatre is still in use to day and caters for all forms of performing arts and cultures, performances and exhibitions can been seen through out the year. The Stamford Shakespeare Company perform at the Open Air Theatre Tolethorpe only a few miles away from Stamford's Town centre and has to be described as one of the finest Open Air Theatres in Europe. Macbeth and Love's Labour's Lost are just some of the splendid shows to be performed this year.TEL 01780 754381
BURGHLEY HOUSE
One of the finest country homes in the whole of the United Kingdom is situated less than a mile from the centre of Stamford, Burghley House is famous for its yearly sporting event, The Burghley Horse Trials which attracts competitors and visitors alike from all over the world.

The house and grounds can only be described as stunning and must be considered as one of the finest Elizabethan houses in the whole of England if not Europe. With several high turrets and spires jutting out from the main building its takes on a truly majestic look, with acres of lawns and land surrounding the house, the gardens are quite beautiful and wild deer can still be seen roaming the grounds. The house is open to the public and guided tours take place most days, the inside of the house is quite beautiful and certainly worth a visit.TEL 01780 752451
MARKET DEEPING
Following the flow of the River Welland east takes you to the charming town of Market Deeping once a main stopping centre for horse drawn carriages and stage coaches .This is evident as you come to the triangular town centre of Market Deeping, several of the Pubs and Guest houses still have many features that show how they were used, as horse and carriages would pull up for the night going through the large archways that are key features on several Inns and Pubs surrounding the main square.

The town centre is surrounded by many old and historic buildings built from the famous yellow ragstone from the nearby village of Barnack. Just on the edge of the town is the village of Deeping St.James, a small and charming village unspoiled by modern development. The River Welland certainly played an important part in the life of the villagers hundreds of years ago and was mainly used by merchant traders to transport goods to Wisbeach . Several locks are situated in Deeping St.James showing how villagers controlled the height and flow of the river, so access to Stamford by boat was possible.
TALLINGTON LAKES
Situated between Market Deeping and Stamford lies Tallington Lakes, the lakes offer a wealth of leisure activities including all forms of water sports and fishing. Also on the same site is the Talligton dry ski slope which is open all year round, to help you keep your feet firmly on the snow whilst in between those foreign ski trips. Tallington also has restaurant facilities and a specially developed camping and caravan site.
